In addition to the main judging panel, there is also a group of individuals who will oversee the
selection of the Pageant's individual awards. The individual awards do not count towards a contestant's overall score.

The Provincial Airlines Academic Excellence Award - As part of the judging criteria for the Miss Teen Achievement Newfoundland and Labrador
Pageant, contestants are required to complete an academic test on Newfoundland and Labrador history, geography and current affairs.
The contestant achieving the highest mark on the exam is presented with the award.

The Curves Healthy Living Award - As part of the judging criteria for the Miss Teen Achievement Newfoundland and Labrador Pageant, contestants
are required to complete a fitness test conducted by qualified fitness instructors at a recognized fitness facility, as well as a short written quiz on healthy living. The contestant achieving the highest score is
presented with the award.

The 99.1 Hits FM Talented Teen Award - Participation in this competition is optional and not counted towards a contestant's overall score. It is in actual
fact, a fun time for the contestants compete in the performing arts of singing, dancing, acting, playing a musical instrument or a combination thereof. The winner of this competition is
presented with the award.

The Model Shop Teen Spirit Award - Competitive events have always offered an opportunity for personal growth and character development, not usually
apparent in the everyday aspects of life. This is an award that is voted on by the contestants themselves, and presented to the person whom they believe has, in the spirit of friendship
and competition best exemplified a desire to be a good example for others.

Keyin College Community Connections Award -Keyin College prides itself on its strong connection and involvement in their local communities. It would like to further promote and recognize such involvement through this special annual award. This award will recognize the contestant who plays an important role in positively influencing, impacting and committing to GIVE back to their home community and environment. Miss Teen Achievement Newfoundland and Labrador Scholarship Pageant contestants are required to provide a detailed list of their community involvement, including references on their pageant applications. References will be contacted to gather further information and testimonials about contestants during the award selection process. The judges will be looking for the contestant who is...
Guidance - An individual who provides "guidance" by positively influencing the members of her home community.
Impact - An individual who has left a lasting "impact" on the members of her home community.
Volunteerism - An individual through "volunteerism" has developed a sense of self-confidence and ability to interact in the "grown-up world".
Environment - An individual who has displayed a commitment to preserving the natural "environment" in their home community.
A special presentation of the award winner's involvement will be delivered at the Pageant Gala, in conjunction with the award presentation. The value of this award is determined annually, and redeemable at Keyin College campus throughout the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. |

The VOCM Cares Charitable Activity Award recognizes the inspiring contributions made by contestants in the Miss Teen Achievement Newfoundland and Labrador Pageant who devote themselves to charitable work. It is not necessary to have any set number of years service working with charitable organizations to receive this award. The winner will have many positive characteristics, including the following:
Innovation: Someone who has taken initiative to spearhead charitable work activities which significantly benefited the organization(s) they worked for.
Inspiration: Someone who stands as an example of commitment to excellence, perhaps having demonstrated leadership and achievement in a variety of contexts within the charity sector.
Influence: Someone who has played a significant role in promoting a charity or charities, and represented a positive image of the work undertaken.
This award shines a spotlight on exceptional performance in charitable work. It recognizes that these achievements help to spread best practice throughout the charity sector, drawing attention to the breadth of talent, commitment and expertise that exists within youth volunteers throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
All information pertaining to charity work included on contestant applications will be reviewed and a short-list of potential award winners will be determined by a team of experienced volunteer adjudicators. Due to the need for impartiality, the names of the adjudicators will not be disclosed until after the assessment process has been completed.
As each contestant is required to provide references who can attest to their community involvement and charity work - references for the short-listed group will be contacted. Based on the information received, the adjudicators will determine the winner.
This award will be presented in the form of a $500 scholarship, and will be held in trust until the recipient has provided proof that she has enrolled at a recognized post-secondary institution.

The SAFE Work Newfoundland and Labrador Young Worker Awareness Award is new for the 2008 pageant, and is sponsored by the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission. This is an individual award and has no bearing on a contestant’s overall score.
Valued at $1,000, contestants are asked to write a 500-word essay on: “The Importance of Educating Youth about Occupational Health and Safety”. Essays will be judged by staff at the Commission, and the recipient will be announced during the Welcoming Dessert Social / Talented Teen Competition on Friday, April 4, 2008. The recipient will also be given the opportunity to read her essay to the audience during the Pageant Gala on Sunday, April 6, 2008, at which time she will be presented with a tiara, sash and plaque. This $1,000 award will be held in trust and awarded when the recipient has provided proof of enrollment at a recognized post-secondary institution.
